Coming Back to Life , minus Office

I knew I needed a break from office and an urgent trip to Mauritius with a couple of blonde girls the moment I read my previous post. It looked like it had been typed by a guy aggressive enough to make Andrew Symonds look like a messenger of peace with a couple of white doves perched on his shoulders . So I decided to take a break and am on the second day of a two weeks leave from office. And before you ask , I scrapped that ‘Mauritius with the blonde girls’ plan . Enough of blondes, you see.

Anyway, now you visualize me spending the break watching TV, sprawled on a couch, with the left hand lazily swooping popcorns off a big plastic bowl and the right hand gripping the remote, and I think your visualization captures my plans beautifully. But I also intend to make some meaningful acts , which compare well with the discovery of fire , Mallika Sherawat and other such things in terms of their impact on mankind. For example , I need to watch my weight now . I mean , little kids are not exactly pointing fingers at me and yelling ‘Look mama , that ball has legs !” , but a little bit of physical activity never killed anybody , unless that activity resulted in pissing off Mike Tyson . So I have been shooting baskets and just dribbling the ball a little in the porch of my home . I am not sure if I have broken a sweat yet , but I am sure I have broken a couple of flower pots placed around the porch .

And I am reading Shahrukh Khan’s biography these days . In a book store setting where the lady standing to my right was browsing through ‘A brief history of time’ by Stephen Hawking and a guy behind me was reaching out for some book on the Indian economy , it is not very elite to pick up a book about bollywood . It’s like picking up the bumper issue of ‘Filmi Kaliyaan’ when the world around you is discussing global warming . But I am liking this book . His obsessive love for Gauri during his younger days as described in the book reminds me of my own feelings for my class III English Grammer teacher . No wonder I could not focus on the Grammer Lessons she taught and the results can being see even today .

And coming back to the need for a break , I think I was beginning to lose the clarity of thinking which has been a hallmark of my existence since childhood , besides a need for movies and eating . I was beginning to lose the wisdom to distinguish a thing I can change from what I can not change. For example , I was spending time feeling bad about the fact that I had some irritating people around me at work instead of understanding that it is a thing I can not change , unless I had a gun , which I don’t . So I have made it into a personal objective to further instill this understanding in my daily life over the time to come.

And last weekend, I went to Ludhiana with five of my IIM batch mates for a friend’s wedding. Pretty close friend. In fact he is the guy who, during my IIM days, introduced me to Babbu Maan’s music videos and other ways to be unpopular with girls. Just to provide another instance, during one of our hostel parties , me and him forced the DJ to play ‘Kaala Chashma’ four times in a row which firmly established us as totally rustic in the minds of most of the IIM students with their more delicate tastes in music and art .

But what unsettled me was that this friend, who had a huge disregard for any kind of societal opinions for himself, looked more flustered than a nine year old boy stuck in the backseat of Michael Jackson’s car during his wedding . Some hours before the wedding, he told me ‘I hope I am doing the right thing.’ I looked up from the glass of orange juice ( Note – Another fluid has been replaced with Orange Juice for the purpose of this post ) , and said “Bhai , I don’t know if you are doing a right thing or a wrong thing , but you are definitely doing it , because now I have spent my money buying you a wedding present , and I am not going back for a refund.” So he went ahead with it and is in Egypt now on his honeymoon .One of the few chaps who went to a ‘mummy’ when most of us would never want our mothers around on our honeymoons.

But I really don’t blame the guy for being a bit unsettled about his choices. At the ripe age of 26 , when I have spent the last few years exploring the maze of human relations using the tried and tested method of personal experience with disastrous consequences , I can only say one thing about marriage – You find out if it was a good decision or a bad one only twenty five years after the wedding , if not more . If you think that’s a pretty intelligent thing I have said, don’t, because I read it somewhere .Mark Twain maybe. Appreciate my honesty, now.

Chalo yaar , you don’t expect me to spend my vacations typing away on a laptop . And before I go back , I want to ask you a thing . If you look back at all the comments I have received from you over the last almost four years I have been blogging , around ninety percent of them would make my parents feel like they have been blessed with a boy of outstanding qualities . Of course , there have been some who have explained to me in no subtle terms that I should be in cage suspended over the Pacific Ocean . But in my heart , I feel that all of you have been incredibly kind to me over all this time . So this time around , I want you to be more honest and tell me what you don’t like about me . If you feel there is something about me you don’t like , tell me . I don’t promise you that I will attempt to change myself , but I promise you I will attempt to find out where you live and stab you when you are out on your morning walk . Ok chill , seriously , tell me what you hate about me . I won’t kill you . Keep smiling.

I'm very new to this world of blogging and came across ur blog from one of my friend. My first impression of u was of a guy who is warm hearted and wants to show his cool attitude so that he is not left alone (may be I'm wrong)! and somehow each post what I've read of urs consolidates my impression, may be judging a book by its cover is not my forte.
I'll say just one thing, never regret what u did as at 1 particular moment u wanted to do that.So be happy for what u did but for whatever u r going to do just remember,v've got only 1 life to live, so live it to fullest.
Over all, u r a good writer and I enjoy reading ur blogs (although I'm not very regular in doing so).

Hey Abhi...here's how I perceive you...your ability to unwrap yourself in front of the junta and bring out the goodies and baddies with equal elan, your ability to call a spade a spade, your views on little things - that matter, is what makes you different from others, including me.

"happiness is something they dont need to tell you about . It is something you feel . And only you decide what makes you happy . When others don't know where you want to be , how can they tell you how to get there ?"
- Guess your own quote from a previous post sums it up.

Been a regular since the past 3 years now. Great going. Can't honestly tell whether there is something hateful about you, except from those who personally know you. Though your blog does make you a truly unforgettable & likeable person on the face of it.

I somehow am able to relate with you. Some of the below mentioned points are inferred from my weakness and not from your posts!

You, to a certain extent, are an idealist. You wanted a few things to happen your way and it did not and you got very flustered. You don't understand at times how people can be like "this"! You will feel confused why someone is behaving like "that". And you don't have answers. None have. You don't like "change". You want life to go on aaram se. Chill. Bindaas. You have a lot of aims, though your writing does not indicate that openly. You have a lot of dreams and passions. You get irritated when some obstacles come in that path. I feel this break will bring you back on track. :)

in a relationship...bout ur age maybe...but i really like a line from one o ur prev posts...something bout being boring at times but stil having someone to understand and like you...tat line struck a chord somewhere...i think u're really expressive...it takes some guts to open ur life up for all n sundry to know n discuss...tats bout it for now...enjoy ur wel deserved holiday...cheers

You want to hear the truth? You can't handle the truth!!!

I guess age does funny things to people. For example, it has made you increasingly unfunny. your jabs seem forced- as though they are there just because you have to keep your blog witty.

But then again, I am a big fan of your honesty and I am betting my life on it.

There is only one reason I read your blog - for its sheer humour quotient. A couple of times I couldn't stop laughing, when I happened to browse some posts while at work..trust me its tough to maintain a st face while reading your "kartoots".
One thing i wouldn't say I didn't like, but felt weird when you write is some senti stuff or more serious stuff. It could be that my perception about you has always been in the lighter vein and hence it feels weird or otherwise.
But you might want to improve when you expressing such aspects.

I understand you are looking for some gen suggestions.. and the kind of person I am.. I always remain appalled by the number of comments u always have for all kind of crap you right :) hence don't bother to comment often.

Hope this helps..hv fun!

So let me settle for this. The one thing I hate about you, is that when I try being funny in my posts, or use the wonderful hinglish you have mastered, I feel almost like I am writing like abhi, dare i say copying abhi !! That makes me hate you buddy!

Well, I have been an off and on reader so thought would let out some candid confession since you pressed for it:-).

Since you claimed you wouldn't stab me during one of the strolls I take, I am exercising the liberty of being transparent and being bold enough too as I never go out for morning walks.

Well, your blogs weave a spell of humour and wit and can help one laugh his spleens out. They are truly hilarious but shallow. It is non-stop nonsense and you just depict facts but have a magical way of potraying it. You actually talk about your fears and then blend it with humour trying to show how unmoved you can be. Trying to win popularity by talking straight about your fears awaiting "Oh-he-is-so-truthful-and-straightforward" responses. And then tweak it with your humour again both of which really goes well with people.

A terribly insecure guy who keeps chanting how unbothered he is about worldly opinions and reiterates that he lives life just as he wishes to. Behind all this lies a normal human who like all others craves for publicity, knows his blogs are widely read. Yet there seems to be this inherent, abstract, failing and obvious attempt to show that you are just unmoved by worldly matters. Though you have never claimed it, but it comes across. But needless to say, you deserve a pat on your shoulders for the rich metaphors and similes that you use and put a chuckle on one's face. Great Job Abhi. Keep the good work.

Hmmmm.... Ouch that was killing with sweetness..

btw I feel until you know a person on a personal level you cannot just judge anything on the basis of his/her writing...( even after that you maybe clueless).... there is a lot said when it remains unsaid (...heheh..)..

Abhi uses humour to represent his day to day experiences.. frankly speaking.. I can identify with several of them.. not becoz I too am an IIMite :D ( its not a disease)...

But because sometimes we are too busy to notice the minute details when we concentrate too much on grasping the "Bigger Picture"..

Likho yaar.. need a good laugh u see..:))

I have never really met you, so wont know.
but what I really dislike is that over the years you have begun ignoring your readers.

(managment - bullets - last post)

->when you began writing - you wrote what you felt and that had a ring of truth to it ... now, you leave out more than what you say, and what you say isnt really what you want to say, it is more of what you "ought" to say to sound funny. Stop trying to hard pal!

-> when you began writing - you used to reply to the comments; even the anon ones and they held genuine humor in them.

-> when you began writing, you actually cared about us - your readers, most readers now 'expect' you to be in a certain mould, and you just cater to it, like a fast food resturant. all service, no soul.

I doubt if you even read all these comments.
if you do read, then give me some indication that you do, atleast delete my stupid comment.

PS - im a male and im not gay. Im not trying to ensnare you for my sister as well. she is very much happily married (poor jiju mine)

Love:

1. Sense of metaphor. Nicely done.

2. Seeming lack of pretentiousness. You *sound* honest, I'll give you that!

3. Self-deprecating humor. Again, unique.

Hate:

1. Your utter and unique sense of punctuation. Commas, freaking commas! One space AFTER!

2. Every single contentless, semi-philosophic, purportedly deep comment above. (Note the clever use of commas to prove my point #1, Section2 above)

By the end of it, there is more jarring noise than a single meaningful sentence.

(Concluding thusly, he went to find himself another blog site to insult ......)

Sometimes words dont speak a thing, silences do. Sometimes it's best not to care about things and be your self dear. Understand that, there are times when people forget that you are a human being with a heart that beats and a smile that's damn sweet;). That's how life is sometimes totally happy so much so that it's tough to handle sometimes too low that we feel at the bottom of pacific occean.
Just one piece of advice, dont give up on things that defines you, that is yours, everything else is just passe.
Shwets
P.S: Just be happy..!!

I am somewhat a new blogger and I feel bit inexperienced in commenting on you but I can comment your comments.... ;)
It seems some people are jealous of you.. he he... they just feel they their blogs don't get that much popularity as compared to yours...
According to me, you have a very nice blog and it really feels nice to read it again and again...
keep posting

Hi! hey I read a couple of your posts and just as you write for the sake of it... I'm commenting for the sake of it! And I feel what your problem is.....
You are intelligent but lack the dedication to become genius....
You were probabaly brought up on a whole lot of reading... not just curriculum stuff...... and you appreciate finer things of life..... so you seek to be "happy"... But you know truly happy people never waste much time on such things!!! Also you are seeking some gal or so your post suggested... may I give a suggestion.. Just pick one that looks tolerably good and has average IQ, for the rest it always works out fine.. And please dont be so conceited about being an IIM, I mean you can write a single post without saying that, you can simply write MBA you know ;-)

Glad you scrapped the Mauritius plan, cause you'd have been disappointed. There aren't much blondes in Mauritius. Really.
